Musical Theatre Dance

(showcase with annie jr)

Our musical theatre dance class will challenge young performers with classical jazz techniques, sharpen movement skills, build dance vocabulary, and develop a unique sense of performance quality. Aimed at young students of all dance backgrounds looking to explore dance as a beginner or become a “triple threat”. Students will showcase their work in OYES' production of ANNIE JR.  Prior training in other dance forms is not required. Beginner students (all-gender) can step into our musical theatre class with ease!

LEARNING GOALS
• Proper warm up techniques
• Technical steps and combinations focusing on jazz style (“Broadway” Jazz)
• Explore storytelling and characterization for musical theatre

In addition to learning goals, students will learn and rehearse intricate choreography culminating in featured performances in OYES’ production of ANNIE JR in May.

DANCE 1 SCHEDULE

The DANCE 1 Class will be divided into two groups for showcase performances. Group A will perform with Tigers Cast, Group B will perform with Lions Cast. Groups will be assigned in class.

Contemporary Dance

This contemporary class will explore essential movement concepts such as dynamics and efforts in order to develop a deep knowledge of nuance in dance, heightening not only range of movement skills, but ability to learn and retain choreography and make artistic and expressive choices. Class times are geared toward independent study (homeschool) students.

DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY

Class will explore creation techniques for building exciting choreography unique to the artist. We will have fun, be playful, and begin to use the artist's lens to explore movement creation through shapes and dynamics, spacial mapping, and world building, all in order to create relevant and meaningful pieces!

Class times are geared toward independent study (homeschool) students.
